I'grand looking for a specific type of router, possibly you guys can give me some hints.

I've been using a Archer C7 v2 in Client Mode for a "long distance" WiFi connection. Recently, the 2.4 GHz band got so overcrowded that transfer rates over the WiFi link got worse and worse, especially during the day. The transfer rate used to be ~ii,5 MB/due south, at present I but get well-nigh 10-50 Kb/south. I'grand thinking that I can get better rates with directional antennas, simply the Archer's ii.four GHz antennas are built-in, and I don't want to cleft open the router in social club to attach antennas to the internal connectors.

So, my question is: what is the "best" router (in terms of performance, memory, quality, DD-WRT stability/characteristic set, etc.) with detachable 2.4 GHz antennas? Ideally, I'm looking for something in the class of the Archer C7, merely with detachable two.iv GHz antennas (ii antennas would be sufficient, but I estimate that combination of modern hardware with only two antennas doesn't exist). The TP-Link TL-WR841ND looks interesting, but I'm not sure how well DD-WRT works on that device.

TL-WR841ND i own this device can't say much for long distance setup your later pretty certain 21 is highest tx power for this device.

I've read that certain routers are capable of using a full 30 tx power every bit that'southward the highest gives most distance, likewise read atheros are better to handle 30tx power without increased interference. No clue what routers to 30 still..

in terms of TL-WR841ND it might not be a good thought, find the forum thread for it, people don't really postal service at that place it'southward 3 pages long, people accept bug with NAS usb and there'south one reported bug about lan and wireless not been able to see each other on shared network there's a fix i'm using latest update for information technology, only even to me it seems there could be improve in terms of support features ect

information technology works for what i need it to do, it's cheap so you could try is in that location a lack of routers that have detachable antennas? i'chiliad looking into others and so i hope that isn't the case.

well TL-WR841ND is a bit outdated and take only 4MB flash, and cant run some important features, moreover it has slow CPU, and bad radio, while TP-Link WR1043ND v2 is still champion in its class... it has great radio range, and has three antennas, much faster CPU, more flash ram 8MB and runs decent builds....
if you want to apply external antennas brand certain you connect them with shortest cable available or place antennas directly adjacent to the unit, from my experience long antenna cablevision does non produce any good results...

My mistake, i actually own the tplink WR842ND not the WR841ND i first looked at the WR841ND and decided it was a bad choice, as per only having 4mb flash the WR842ND has 8mb wink is all the same quite a inexpensive pick can run vpn ect cheapest option from my perspective has removable antennas as well.

Thanks for the infos! The WR841N would exist interesting because it needs only two external antennas. The WR1043ND seems to be much more like the Archer C7, but it needs three antennas. Not quite sure which manner to go yet.

VictorRamos: it'due south not really that much distance, nearly 500 Meters. The trouble is the crowded ii.4 GHz band, I have 30-40 WiFi networks around me at any given fourth dimension. Almost every available channel is being used, so interference is probably very high.

Well if you have a iii antenna host than you need 3 antenna client otherwise information technology will be messy then same with 2 or 1...

i utilise one of my 1043 v2 in very 2,4Ghz over crowded area, student housing and there are about 20 or more than others wi-fi bacons effectually, never had whatsoever issues,
There is a racket amnesty setting in DD-WRT for Atheros devices....and so you lot can give it a try..
Although 2,4Ghz has a smashing range on NG mixed, 40HT wide aqueduct, it volition get better range on 20HT but slower WI-FI
